Kyle Smith is a jazz guitarist and educator living in Portland, Oregon. While earning his masters in jazz pedagogy at Eastern Washington University, he taught small and large jazz ensembles, history of rock ‘n roll, jazz methods for music educators, and clinics on improvisation, jazz guitar, and rhythm section strategies.
While performing and recording with the Spokane Jazz Orchestra and the Bob Curnow Big Band, Kyle performed with internationally known jazz artists such as Dianne Schuur, Nnenna Freelon, Andy Martin, and Ed Shaughnessy. He can be heard on the Bob Curnow Big Band album: The Music Of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays Vol. 2.
As a guitarist with Spokane Symphony Orchestra, Kyle performed alongside Five By Design with Richie Cole, and Idena Menzel.
Since graduating from Eastern Washington University, Kyle has taught guitar at Gonzaga University, Spokane Falls Community College, his own private studio, and is a faculty member at the EWU Jazz Dialogue summer camp.
Living in Portland, Oregon, Kyle maintains a busy teaching schedule with his private studio, Mt Hodd Community College, adjudicating at jazz festivals, and teaching at summer jazz camps. He performs regularly around the Eugene area, and appears on the Jessika Smith Big Band release: Tricks Of Light.
