Course Description

As a modern guitarist, it is important to be be able to improvise and solo. This course will expand your single-note jazz soloing skills. You will understand the basics of navigating typical jazz chord progressions.

Just as with spoken language, jazz is a living language with a rich vocabulary that is both steeped in tradition and is constantly evolving. In this course Corey demonstrates ways to improvise over both static modal vamps and moving chord progressions. We will cover jazz vocabulary and patterns, and learn to use and navigate some of the most characteristic chord substitutions in jazz. We will also learn to apply the harmonic minor scale over minor ii-V-i progressions and solo over modal vamps using pentatonic ideas.
