Introduction
The Honeysuckle Rose quote is attributed to the composition by Fats Waller. Like "Cry me a River" and "Gone but not Forgotten" it is a quote taken from a melody that is simple yet harmonically specific. Grant Green manipulated this quote from its original version and used it prolifically in his improvisations. This lesson will disect the origins of the quote, the harmonic implications, and the possible variations that can be used as a jumping off point for flowing, bebop style jazz lines.
