About Harry Brandt
Harry Brandt is an alto saxophonist based in Denver, Colorado, and a graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Global Jazz Studies with a 3.83 GPA. He has performed extensively in large ensembles and small jazz combos and has a strong background in jazz performance, improvisation, and ensemble playing.
During his time at UCLA, Harry studied privately with internationally renowned saxophonists Mark Turner and Azar Lawrence, as well as Justo Almario. These experiences helped shape his musical approach, emphasizing strong fundamentals, clarity of sound, and thoughtful musical expression. His training spans traditional jazz, Afro-Latin jazz, and contemporary styles.
Harry’s teaching background includes mentorship and educational experience through the Paul Carr Jazz Academy and Summer Camp, where he was both a long-time student and later a volunteer. In this role, he assisted with rehearsals, demonstrations, and ensemble instruction, gaining valuable experience working with younger musicians in structured learning environments.
As an instructor, Harry focuses on building solid fundamentals—tone, technique, rhythm, and musical understanding—while encouraging creativity and confidence. He believes in breaking down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps and tailoring lessons to each student’s individual goals and learning style. His goal is to help students not only improve technically, but also develop a genuine enjoyment and appreciation for music.
