The original Jensen was destroyed by customs when I was coming back from a trip. Had it in a nice flight case. When I plugged it in after I got it home, it just made a gugrling noise. I figured something was loose from the flight, so I took it in to the amp repair guy...he said the voice coil looked like it had been pried out with a screwdriver...also the reverb tank had been unscrewed and was out of the bag, and all the tubes were sitting in the back of the amp. So....I'm looking for a new speaker. What have you tried and liked?

  • Total bummer about your amp, Customs sucks. Did you try to get them to pay for it?Ghost R 2013-06-25T03:27:23.0Z

  • No. I'd had it home and left it in the flight case for a month or two before I realized something was wrong, and then didn't take it in to get fixed and discovered what had happened for several more months. I guess I just figured it was to late to try to make a fuss.Jefe 2013-06-25T03:52:17.0Z

Why not get the speaker repaired? I've used orange county speaker to recone a vintage speaker, and after the break in period, it sounded great. but I'm sure there are others out there that can do the work.  check out the Jensen Neo if you want to lighten up the wright of your amp  or an Eminence C.Rex if you want to darken it up a bit.

Comments:

  • you should send it to Weber and have them recone it with a 50 watt voice coil and either the standard 12F150 cone or the 12F150T.Ghost R 2013-06-25T03:25:24.0Z

The Weber version of that speaker is great. The Tone Tubby alnico totally rocks. It's got a sweet top end that works well with the Fender Deluxe high end, and tightens up the bottom end.

I also like the the Cannabis Rex. http://www.eminence.com/ I'd also look at getting that original Jensen fixed, even if you do decide to go with another speaker.

Comments:

  • That's two votes for getting it repaired. I think I will try a darker speaker like the C.Rex. the top end can get a bit shrill with a Telecaster..Jefe 2013-06-25T03:30:03.0Z

I love Weber speakers... I have them in my '66 Super and my '65 Vibrolux. Gve them a call and they can help you figure out which one would work best for what kind of tone you want.

Their web site sucks, but here it is: http://www.tedweber.com/

Their number is 765-480-8163

Anyone know anything about Derek Trucks Pyle Drivers? Is there anything comparable in a 10 inch?

Comments:

  • I own a pair in my '65 Vibrolux and they are amazing. I play through a Keely modified Tube Screamer and a Strat with a Kurt Hammett 2-single, 1 humbucker premade face plate (I don't think they sell this anymore). The sound is incredible... infinite sustain, but it's not a metal sound. It's more vintage 70s. Sometimes I think I'm playing through a Marshall. I definitely recommend these speakers! PS: It takes a few hours of use before they broke in.JP 2013-06-26T01:02:08.0Z

That's a bummer about customs! So what did you end up doing?
