In 2010 I was finishing grad school at UARTs. I remember the semester being hectic as I and my fellow classmates were finishing our thesis, recitals, etc and looking ahead to graduation. Halfway through the semester Pat Martino stopped by to chat with our grad class to offer some insight. In the process we had the opportunity to also discuss the topics we had chosen for our thesis. At some point Pat turned the conversation towards looking ahead, as in after graduation. I remember him saying that just in a few months we will walk out the door and then the real world hits. He reminded us that there are several musicians competing for opportunities to teach and perform. Pat also reminded us that he is also our competition.

I believe the true competition is you against yourself. However, the market doesn’t lie. Consider what you do as YOU Inc. YOU are a busisness and businesses compete.
